Monday Motivation: Share a Joke

It’s okay to laugh, ya know.

I want you to share a joke today with a classmate…coworker…friend…neighbor on the train…somebody.

Here’s mine:

There was a Minister whose wife was expecting a baby. The Minister went to the congregation and asked for a raise. After much consideration and discussion, they passed a rule that when the Minister’s family expanded, so would his pay check.

After five or six children, this started to get expensive. The congregation decided to hold a meeting again to discuss the Minister’s pay situation. You can imagine there was much yelling and bickering. Finally, the Minister got up and spoke to the crowd, “Having children is an act of God!”

In the back of the room, a little old man with a full beard stood up, and in his frail voice said… “Snow and Rain are also ‘acts of God’, but when we get too much, we wear rubbers!”

Like this one? I GUESS you can share it. I encourage you to search for one on your own though. Search on this blog or my blog designated to hold jokes.

Monday Motivation: Claim your year

2015 is better than 2014. You have to claim it. This is the year you become great. If you’re already great, be greater. Raise the bar of your life. Set a higher standard. 2014 was awesome. You made it. Now it’s time to take on 2015.

Claim your year. Claim it right now. You must do it. The power of the tongue is real. So go and speak life into your year. You will rise. Your family will rise. Your friends will rise. Your career will rise. Your academic performance will rise.

It all starts with you claiming it.

Monday Motivation: Write

You should write it down. Thoughts. Feelings. Reminders. Write. And when I say “write” I mean with real words.

What?

Please, let’s avoid the “text language” of “u” meaning all three versions and “2” for all three versions. Can we use proper grammar for a change? Or did you forget?

Think it’s easy to flip back and forth between structured and non-structured writing? Maybe you can. But, as a society, it seems to be more struggle on writing.

I still use pencils and pens with paper. What’s that? I like the sensation of it all.

Anyway, write stuff down. Alright, I don’t really care how you write it; it needs to feel natural. Just write down things. If thoughts get jumbled, write it out. By writing it down, you actually force your mind to structure the thought enough to form words and that can actually help your overall thinking process.

Whenever I’m working on lighting designs, I write all scenarios down that come to mind. It’s very helpful. I have one of those little notepads that I keep in my pocket. I scribble in it from time to time.

I think writing can help you feel better. This is my opinion. Try it out.

Monday Motivation: Take a Seat

Hm, how about that? Take a seat? What does that mean?

I mean, take a seat. Sit down. Breathe for a minute. Things are constant in this world these days. Can we just sit down and pee for a minute? Can we eat something…and focus on the food?

Take a seat. Relax when you can. Some say you can rest when you finish the race. I think, in some cases, if you work yourself to death, you ain’t finishin’ nothin’.

Excuse me. I meant, you aren’t going to finish anything. Good grief.

Anyway, let’s slow down if only for a moment. Observe. Study.

Look at me, asking for this on a Monday. But that makes it all the more challenging. Love yourself. Find time for yourself.

Take a seat.

The best of Monday Motivation

I should tell you all (though you may have already noticed) that I’ve been spending my blogging energy on my lighting blog DLN Stage Lighting. It’s a blog about lighting, but it is also home to my lighting crew from my church.

Anyway, I have returned to DALANEL. This week, I’ll be looking at past posts of my weekly features. This is mainly because I am still working on the lighting blog and also because I’m struggling to find content.

So, what are some of my favorite motivations?

Remember one of my first ones? Tell a Joke. I tried to encourage people to be funny that day.

I liked the one where I ended up motivating people to motivate others.

Let’s remember to do our research before we accept or reject information as fact.

This one was of passion and fire. Fight back. The world is trying to take you out, but be strong.

Which Monday Motivation spoke to you the most?

Monday Motivation: Keep Shining

Matthew 5:16 essentially tells us to let our light shine. This is a Bible Verse I constantly share with my lighting crew. In fact, I end emails with this phrase: Keep Shining. It’s a reminder if that verse.

So, as I once challenged you to follow our pledge, I now encourage you to follow Matthew 5:16.

Keep shining.

The world is dark. It’s filled with evil things. Obviously, my blog aims to fight such things. But, as a lighting designer, I have an appreciation of light on many scales. Not only do we light, but, as Christians, we are a light.

Instead of letting the wind of the world kill your fire, you must do whatever it takes to keep it alive. You must keep shining because the world needs light. Are you going to be that light? Are you going to lead people from the pits of despair with your optimism?

Keep shining.

Let me announce that, just as I end my emails to my crew, I shall end my posts with the “catchphrase”. A reminder to us all to keep shining.

With that said,

Keep shining,
