Wednesday Word. A short sermon followed by my commentary.
We really do need to learn how to say goodbye and let go of people in our lives that aim to suck us into their hole of despair.
I do want to add that saying goodbye does not mean that you no longer care for that person’s well being. My comments actually are from my book and the chapter called “Let It Go”. I’ll link you to that post.
Anyway, you have to let people go; but that person still needs help. I like to say “love from a distance”.
That’s pretty interesting that Jesus will always look for the lost. In the video, Kevin used the lost sheep parable. We could also use the Prodigal Son as well in terms of when we decide to come back, Jesus is just as happy and always welcoming with open arms.
When Abraham was trying to get to his nephew in a doomed city, he went back and forth with God asking if there were even just one person living for God in the city, would it be destroyed. God said no.
It’s all about the one person. These stories and more show that God cares about each and every single one of us. And, in the event that we are lost, He will come looking for us. He gets sick with concern for us. “I’m just one person” So? He’s made you with a purpose. Before you were a physical thought, God made a plan for you.
Jesus won’t give up on you during your down times so you shouldn’t give up on yourself.
This is one of those posts where I probably won’t do much talking.
I will say something about testing the spirits. As the Bible says, you can run into liars. These people tell you something that ultimately doesn’t line up with the word of God.
It’s perfectly fine to seek the truth. If we walk blindly into stuff, it becomes foolish.
Let’s use an example. God has said that you are set on watching a movie. The movie is yours for the watching. You arrive at the theater, and are waiting in line. Something tells you to skip the line and try to sneak in. This voice tells you that God did say that you are supposed to watch this movie, so it doesn’t matter how you get in.
That goes against what God said in terms of lying and stealing. Yes, it’s true that you destined to see this movie, but things still have to follow a godly order.
The devil does a good job of talking to us about things that seem to make sense. You could say “half truths”. And, because there is some truth to his statements, we take the whole thing. Other times, the devil tells us only one side of the story, the good side.
So, get into the word of God. More importantly, get into God Himself. Learn His ways and master hearing His voice. Get educated. It takes time but you can do it. We need to.
Today’s Wednesday Word is one of those few times where I’m like, “That’s what I’ve been saying!”. This video really sends a message: Let’s go back to basics.
By the 2 minute mark, I knew what was going on.
That’s our problem. We have all of these denominations. I’ve always said that Jesus doesn’t care about that. All He cares is that you accept Him. John 3:16 says “for God so loved the world that He gave His only Son so that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life”. Jesus said disciples. To be politically correct, we’re the ones that created all of these denominations and titles. Jesus didn’t come for that.
And, like Kevin was saying, at some point, we need to just let go of various interpretations of what the Bible says and just say “We’ll never know”. “We’ll never understand”. And that’s okay. That’s fine. God is so great and vast that there’s no way we’ll understand Him and His ways. We don’t fully understand the simplest of things in our world, and yet we think we can tackle God? Alright.
Well, it can be very hard to trust God at times and that’s because we seem to be creatures that love control. We want to feel like we’re in control. Perhaps that’s the way we were made but we like to feel like we’re in control of many decisions we make and the events in our lives. Our destiny.
That’s the big reason why it’s hard to trust God. It’s not that we don’t think He knows what He’s doing; it’s just that we don’t understand it. And, as the verse says, we can’t lean on what we can grasp. We can only trust God and let Him handle it. That Jericho example was a really good one. God will ask us to do things that really don’t make sense. But, like my boy Fred Hammond says: He’s God and that’s just the way it is.
Once we trust God more often, we’ll have more peace, especially when God comes through; and He ALWAYS comes through even if we don’t like the result.
Remember this too: God wants your trust. He’s not going to force His will and way on you. When you’re in a situation and you don’t know what else to do, God is waiting for you to turn it over to Him. Give it to Him and He will take it and you will be great.
This one has Steven talking about this story. But I’ll tell you what, he brings this message home in that last minute.
That was huge for two reasons. Number one, we need to let our light shine. But, number two, God already gave us a role that we are constantly trying to audition for.
Why do we do that?
Part of it is that we feel like we have to work for things. We feel like we have to earn our place.
