Today in July History: July 13th

Today is a special day for the month as Julius Caesar was born. And July is named after him so, you know, big deal. In case you didn’t know, his son, Augustus, is the inspiration for August. Summer of Roman greats, I guess. Anyway,

People:

100 BC Julius Caesar (Roman leader)

1940 Patrick Stewart (Actor played Captain Picard on Star Trek)

1942 Harrison Ford (Actor)

1944 Erno Rubik (Invented the Rubik’s Cube)

1957 Cameron Crowe (Director)

1963 Spud Webb (Basketball player)

Events:

1908 For the first time in the modern Olympics, women compete.

1923 The Hollywood Sign is officially dedicated. It originally reads “Hollywoodland ” but the four last letters are dropped after renovation in 1949.

1930 The first FIFA World Cup begins in Uruguay.

1977 The New York City Blackout of 1977 lasts for 25 hours

Holidays:

Barbershop Appreciation Day: A day to listen to Sweet Adelines, or at least a barbershop quartet. I mean, if you can find one…

Embrace Your Geekness Day: Are you a geek? Feel proud of yourself! But, we all have a little geekness in us. So try to do something geeky today.

Daily Good Stuff 122

Saturday. VBS at my church ended on Friday and we had a good time. If it seems like my posts this week have been rushed, it’s because they are. I spent my week preparing the lessons and then of course teaching. Next week, things will return to normal. VBS always makes me forget that my birthday is just a little over a week away. So let’s get this day out of the way, shall we? Well, not out of the way but let’s get to the post.

To make us love our country, our country ought to be lovely. Edmund Burke

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 1 John 4:9

Daily Good Stuff 120

So it’s Thursday and I just realized that Tuesday, you, the readers, set a new DALANEL record of viewing for a day. So a big thank you for that. As for July beating out the best month (June 2013), it looks promising. July most likely will be the best month yet and that’s an awesome birthday gift for me so thanks again. Let’s get to the good stuff.

The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work. Emile Zola

My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, LORD, I will seek. Psalm 27:8

And here we are in the middle of the week. Are you ready? Of course you are! I got two more weeks until my birthday (my birthday falls on Wednesday and I was also born on a Wednesday). So let’s get this party started. Well, today’s party that is.

Wise men store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin. Proverbs 10:14

Daily Good Stuff 118

Terrific Tuesday! This week I’m teaching at my church’s Vacation Bible School so I’m hanging with the kids. It’s my favorite time with the kids vs other experiences. Seems like it’s more a party than anything. Too bad it’s just a week. Anyway, let’s get on with the shooooooow!

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant. Robert Louis Stevenson

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Colossians 3:12-14
