Good Friday: A New Look

Another week of good times and good people. But, in an attempt to better personalize this post, I am adding more than just good news. This post will be a symbol of all positive things…or at least what is positive to me. It is a blog about the things on my mind after all.

So you’ll get your good news links. Also, you’ll get some quotes. Every once in a while I may put in a video of a song or something. Just something to get the spirits up. Bring a wave of positive in a world that seems to focus on the negative.

I’m in experiment stage so the next few Good Friday posts will probably look inconsistent. I know you’ll still love me though.

First, “It good to be a hero”. That’s what a shoe shiner said as it has been discovered that he donated $200,000 over the past 30 years to the Children’s hospital in Pittsburgh. Here are the lovely details:

Albert Lexie says he’s been shining shoes for $5 at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh since the early 1980s. Dr. Joseph Carcillo says Lexie has donated more than a third of his lifetime salary to the Children’s Hospital Free Care Fund, which helps parents who can’t afford to pay their sick children’s medical costs.

The whole story can be found here. It’s a great thing to see folks donating. You don’t see rich people doing this BUT…I’m not saying that rich people don’t donate. And I feel like the news probably wouldn’t want to cover that anyway because that’s the society we’re livi-let me stop.

Here’s a quote to check out:

The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.  ~Mark Twain

That’s a quote I live by, although it’s not the quote itself. My joy comes from others’ joy. When someone laughs, I laugh. That’s why I always aim to make folks laugh. I always aim to bring a positive attitude because it reflects back to me. So yeah.

Alright so what else would you want to see added to this post? Let me know and let’s get positive or something!

Reach Your Potential

Hi, I’m Dante Nelson. But you knew that already. What you may not know what I am about to say. I do have a word for you. I want you to be the best you can be.

Reach your potential.

We are capable of doing many great things. Whatever that great thing it is that you do, do it greatly. Invest your time into whatever you’re good at. Work on your craft. Make it great. And then blow the world away.

Do it for you. Do it for God.

You have certain abilities and skills that make you unique. Don’t let anyone tell you that you are not special. You are special. Sure, you may not get paid a lot of money. I just talked about me and my writing and how I may never get paid. And that’s ok.

And make sure you are behind it 100%. Again, people will try to bring you down. That’s life. But we must never let them bring us down. We must not be discouraged. Don’t let your circumstance hold you back. Strive for excellence my friends.

This Blog Sucks, But, It’s Getting Better

Numbers don’t lie! This blog isn’t doing very well. It’s been here for 2 years. 2 years. And I just got over 1,000 views. The best day has been 21 views in a day. This blog sucks. Before I did this overhaul, I had about 30 posts by October 2012. Jesus.

So now what? Well, the blog is starting to perform better. I have a lot more followers than before but I’m less than 20 so…yeah. Of course, factor my Twitter following and Facebook likes and I have over 200. Not bad. While this blog is bad, the numbers are pointing in an upward direction.

Yay.

Part of the reason, really, it’s the biggest reason, is that I’ve been blogging more consistently. Any successful blog strives on consistency. Back when this blog was known as Dante’s Opinion, I was posting just a few times per month. My aim with DALANEL is to post a few times per week.

Having constant posts is key. I also think variety is key. That’s why I have Weekly Funnies and Good Friday posts. That’s why I invited Dallas to blog.

Actually, let me explain Dallas T a little more.

Weekly Funnies 9

We’re back! Well, I’m back. All of last week I was under the weather PLUS my computer pretty much stopped working. It was hell. Hm? Oh you don’t care; you just want some laughs. Fair enough. Well let’s start things off with a joke, shall we?

Tom was so excited about his promotion to Vice President of the company he worked for and kept bragging about it to his wife for weeks on end.

Finally she couldn’t take it any longer, and told him, “Listen, it means nothing, they even have a vice president of peas at the grocery store!”.

“Really?” he said. Not sure if this was true or not, Tom decided to call the grocery store.

A clerk answers and Tom says “Can I please talk to the Vice President of peas?”

The clerk replies “Canned or frozen?”

Good times. I don’t think that was a problem when I worked at Target.

Finally!

Hey everyone! I’m Dallas, Dante’s cousin, I’ve been trying to  figure out what to write about, instead of just writing about what comes to my head, so here I am. I’m glad to have a cousin, more of a brother, like Dante. Without having someone to talk to, I would have shut myself off from the world a lot of times, luckily I had Dante. It’s amazing how the people that’s farthest away from you, are the people you’re closer with. Today is Valentine’s Day, my favorite holiday, and I just want everyone that has a special someone to spend this day with, well night now, to always remember to be there for each other and not let anything come between you. Nothing is stronger than the power of love itself. This is all over the place, I really am just putting what comes to the top of my head, I’m not really in the advice mood; besides I wouldn’t know what to start with. Anyways, I’m done with this for tonight. I will hopefully have something to talk about next time.  🙂

Weekly Funnies 8

How ya doing? Enjoy the Super Bowl? Loved the commercials? Well here’s a nice top ten list of Super Bowl commercials. And while the ten end before the video ends, hang in there because there is an honorable mention as well.

You like? What commercials did you expect to see there that wasn’t?
