A Light for Everybody

I’m sort of feeling some kind of way and this is some sort of rant. About what? About how some Christians have the nerve to be exclusive with their light or not even share it at all.

First of all, how dare you?

Who do you think you are that you can judge who gets light and who doesn’t? By light, I mean the story of salvation. Telling people about Jesus.

Are we a people who say this: Oh, she’s mean to me so I’m not gonna tell her about Jesus.

Are we only kind to those who are kind to us? Jesus was kind to everybody; even knowing what would happen to Him. Give me a break. He told us to love our enemies. So that’s it. We share out light with EVERYBODY.

Someone had to share with you. Don’t forget that. I don’t care how old you were or who shared it with you. Someone had to decide that, even though you were NOT a Christian. Even though you were not saved, “I still have to tell this person about Jesus”. Sure, mommy did it because she loves you. Still, she could have easily said “Nah, he bit my nipples too hard as a baby. He’ll have to find someone else to tell him”. I personally wasn’t breast fed so this ain’t a true story in my case. Relax.

Anyway, just as someone had to reach down to pull you up, you must turn around and do the same. Jesus did the ultimate reach down: He came down. He came down as one of us and decided to do the ultimate pull up by sacrificing Himself.

Imagine you’re in a pit. A very deep pit. The only way you are getting up is on somebody’s shoulders. But the only person strong enough to hold you is Jesus. Jesus comes into the pit with you, and hoists you up. But, Jesus ends up killing Himself in the process. He died so you may live. He knew He would die. It’s not like it caught Him by surprise, but He still went in the pit to get you out. But, in His power and glory, He was able to get Himself out of the pit. He’s just that great.

The Balance of Gift and Growth

We are born with gifts. Sometimes we know about them early and sometimes they don’t appear until later. Either way, we have gifts.

For the most part, these gifts are from God for us to use for His glory. Some can sing. Some can write. Others can encourage. Whatever it is, it is a gift.

Then there’s growth. This can be in two forms.

One form of growth is the growth of your gift. As time goes on, you take your gift and expand it. You try out various techniques.

The other form of growth is a little more tricky. It sort of flows from the first version except that it’s something dealing with a non-gift.

Some people are naturally gifted to do or be. And then, you have people that have to work hard to reach this same level. And that’s sort of the second growth.

In my opinion, both areas are important. Either way, you have to grow. But, then you have to accept limitations.

Yeah.

Wednesday Word: Do you have a Jonah spirit?

Yes another week of Wednesday Word is here. It’s been a very successful feature here at DALANEL. No reason to try to spice things up. If you’re new here, Wednesday Word is where I grab a short sermon from the internet; about no longer than 10 minutes long, and then I write some commentary.

Are ya ready?

Those of you that have been following this blog for several months now know what my Jonah spirit is: Lighting director of my church’s cantatas and plays. I don’t really want to do it, but I know I have to. In fact, I talked about such an event where I was swallowed by a “whale” that God sent.

Anyway, running away from what God wants us to do is rather foolish. Anything that God wants us to do, it’s for our benefit. God is God. He doesn’t need you. He would rather have you play a role, but, He’ll go to somebody else if need be. He may not always send a whale to bring you back.

Like the pastor said, let’s do a better job of embracing/accepting what God calls us to do.

Wednesday Word: God is with you

Okay, it’s time for anther Wednesday Word. Let’s get started with this video:

Good stuff, Adrianna. Alright, so she talked about how, no matter what, God is with us.

One way to look at it is that it’s the Holy Spirit. For Christians, when we say yes to Jesus, His spirit comes to live in us. So, He’s with us wherever we go. Like she said, even in our darkest, loneliest hour, God is right there.

She nailed it. Just remember that not only is God with you, but He’s in you.

Are you a bandwagon Christian?

Welp, here we freaking go again. I might hit a nerve. You could end up feeling some kind of way after I’m done. That’s assuming you end up reading this whole post.

I. You. We. Need to look into the mirror and ask ourselves this question: Am I a bandwagon Christian?

It’s nothing to be ashamed of, in a sense. I mean, it’s not like we’re jumping up and down with excitement every time we face a trial. Still, there are some people that really want all of the benefits and don’t want to work for anything.
