Dante’s Opinion: Can I get in trouble for pissing off a telephone scammer?

I needed a good laugh! Here’s the question:

Can I get in trouble for pissing off a telephone scammer? A scammer called me on the phone earlier and was trying to tell me I owed thousands of dollars to the IRS, I’ve had many of these scam calls in the past but ignored them but today I picked up and went, “Oh, thank god, someone to talk to. I’ve had THE WORST week.” and proceeded to tell him everything that happened this week and he got really annoyed because I wouldn’t let him speak, I just went on and on for about ten minutes and eventually he got angry and started cursing me out before ending the call lol.

No, you won’t get in trouble. You didn’t threaten or anything. In fact, what you did was exactly what I am going to do next time I get a call like that. Last time I simply played along without giving too much information.

I’m impressed that dirt bag stayed on the line with you that long.

Please continue posting more stories like that. Y’all keep this up and I’m gonna have to start a new series on the funniest calls with phone scammers.

Dante’s Opinion: Attend My Nephew’s Wedding, or My Graduation Ceremony?

This might be one of the toughest ones yet for me.

I will be graduating and going through the cermonies in May of 2017. My nephew is getting married most likely on the same day asmy graduation. My parents seem to want to go to the wedding which means i would be going through the ceremonies by myself. should I go to the wedding and not my graduation.( I just want to go through the ceremonies once in my life)

Whew! I personally don’t want to be at my graduation ceremony. I hate graduation ceremonies. They are boring. Weddings that I have attended (and done audio and lighting for professionally) have also been boring. So, to me, I’d stay home!

Obviously, you’re not gonna do that. So then, what is the decision? I would tell you to attend your ceremony. Problem is, a big part of doing this is for your family to take part in the celebration. Without the family there, there is an element missing from the experience.

On one hand, you’ve worked hard and it’s nice to sit down and have people tell you what a great job you did. On the other hand, you want to support your family.

I’m sort of resentful, here. I mean, your nephew can’t move the date? Ah, but I’ve never planned a wedding. I don’t know how difficult it is to secure a date.

Alright, enough fooling around. My opinion here is to go to the ceremony. It’s your activity. Your life. Your accomplishment. If you want to take part in it, go for it. Besides, if it were honestly up to me, I would. I don’t like being around people.

Dante’s Opinion: Did My Joke Go Too Far?

Hoo-boy.

A couple years ago a student at my school died due to complications of asthma (her lung collapsed) after her death the school kinda stopped talking about her after a month and gave her her own page in the yearbook as a tribute, that’s it. My friend has asmtha also and expressed her concern about the same scenario happening to her then I said “well if you die, you’ll get your own page in the yearbook” I didn’t think it was that bad but their reactions said otherwise. They’ve recently confronted me about my offensive humour and I think this might have put them over the edge.

Let’s first start off with the fact I probably would’ve said the same thing. I also have asthma so this is a real conclusion for me. With all of that said, I honestly think your comment wasn’t meant to be offensive. However, it would be wise to apologize to your friend.

Your last sentence is telling, though. Apparently, as you say, this could be a collective reaction to your type of humor. It might be wise to lay low for a little while.

Dante’s Opinion: Am I racist if I believe black women are not attractive?

Here we go!

Am I racist if I believe black women are not attractive?

Nope. Look, and I’ve said this before, but I think quite a few people don’t understand what racism is. What you are dealing with is preference. Some people like a big butt. Other love them boobs. You happen to not be so attractive to black people; which is perfectly fine.

I, a brown man, am not actually all that attracted to black women myself for an interesting reason (it’s really odd).

I don’t know if anybody told you that it was racist, but it’s not. Really quick; to end the post, let’s define racism.

  1. a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

2 :  racial prejudice or discrimination

My opinion is that your view of the attractiveness of black women is not racist.

Dante’s Opinion: Are Writers Considered Artists?

Interesting and personal question:

Are writers considered artists?

Yes…and no…

There are a lot of styles of writing, but, you could sort of place them in one of two categories: Informative and creative. Examples…

Informative:

  • Academic
  • Reporting/Journalism
  • Technical

Creative:

  • Poetry
  • Playwriting
  • Novelist

There are more for both groups. The difference is that informative serves to let the public know certain information while the creative side tugs on our entertainment side. That’s a bad word.

A writer that is potentially considered an artist is going to be from the creative side, as art is the creation of something, usually based off of imagination. Writers can be good at one side or the other or both. I have done both sides (and my book touches on both sides). If I had to pick, I prefer writing my plays, man. I love creative writing but, again, I can tackle both.

I could go on since this is an area of expertise, but we’ll stop here.
