Dante’s Opinion: Working From Home: Yay or Nay?

Very simple question:

Working From Home: Yay or Nay?

Yay, yay, yay, yay, yay. It’s funny; my projected career path would allow me to work from home easily. Writing for a website or newspaper or whatever means I can sit with my laptop and type away. We can schedule a Skype call for meetings.

Obviously, not every industry can be made to work from home and, in other cases, being in a certain setting is better for productivity.

The only real downside of being able to work from home is if you’re easily distracted. I’ve seen comment son how it’s not good for self motivation and procrastination problems but that’s if you’re the owner of a business AND work from home. But, if you’re an employee, due dates aren’t a problem. You better get your job done; and location of work doesn’t matter.

I already have proved I can work on my own without compensation and this blog is a testament to that. So, in either scenario, I don’t worry about working from home. So, yay!

Dante’s Opinion: What Can I Do When I’m Bored?

Ah, the question that gets to us. Some of us hate it. Others don’t get to experience it.

What can do when I’m bored? I’m 11 years old and have like 20-30mins to spare. This hasn’t happened in a while. What should I do?

This looks like an opportunity for a list! For 20-30 minutes, there’s not a lot of time to complete much stuff. And, in your case of “this hasn’t happened in a while” this means you probably would like something to do that doesn’t require a lot of time. Lastly, I’m considering your age. Just a little baby!

  • Netflix
  • Never too old for a nap
  • Read stuff from this blog
  • Invest in binoculars and spy on the neighbors
  • Homework (hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha)
  • Reorganize your library
  • Rig one of the traps from Home Alone. Retailers have Christmas stuff on the shelves already.
  • Lock yourself in the bathroom and get your karaoke on.
  • Paint or draw
  • Social media
  • Invent an anti-boredom machine.
  • Punch pillows
  • Move furniture around and stun your parents and blind little brother.
  • Play a game (video, board, mobile, whatever)
  • Prank somebody. Not me; I’m unprankable.
  • Do some exercising.
  • Anything radioactive around? Get bit or drown and be a hero

Dante’s Opinion: My Girlfriend Says She’ll Break Up With Me If I Vote for Trump. What Would You Do?

Sometimes…eh.

My girlfriend says she’ll break up with me if I vote for Trump. What would you do?

Vote for Trump. That’s what I would do. I mean, she can’t force you to vote for something. She can’t threaten for your vote. She will vote for who she wants because of her reasons. We have a situation where we have a responsibility to vote in the most unfiltered way possible.

Honestly, if that’s what breaks you up, I’d say good for you.

I get what she may be feeling like. To vote for Trump obviously means you stand by his ideals. If she’s turned off by those, and you stand by them, then yeah, she may not be interested in sticking with you.

It’s private. You don’t even have to tell her who you’re voting for. Did she tell you who she’s voting for? You don’t have to say anything, at all.

If it were me, I would vote for who I want and F the rest. It’s probably for the best if the relationship ends.

Dante’s Best: October 2016

A monthly feature where I take the best posts from the month and share them with you. The best is determined by mostly my preference but also views and likes.

We’re looking at the featured posts. If I have any other types of posts, I will pick the best of those. So, it’s like this:

  • Best Dante’s Opinion for the month
  • Best Dante Positive for the month
  • Best Dante Funny for the month
  • Best non featured post for the month

Dante’s Opinion

The winner for the month of October goes to this:

Why do people ask questions like “what’s up” or “how is your day” when they really don’t care at all? It’s the same dialogue with the same answer. I don’t get why this is used. It literally has no meaning. When I’m asked “what’s up” or “how’s it going” all I do is repeat what they say or say “nice”. And it is very annoying. I know it’s considered good etiquette, but how? There is no reason for it. If you really want me to tell you how my day is, let me think about it, tell you, and give details. If you don’t care about my day, then I see no point in asking the question.

And, I basically ranted a response in agreement with this original question. A very close second was about when to have homemade chocolate cake. But yeah man, that stupid question people ask without expecting an answer to is too much for me.

Dante Positive

Remember that boy who grew his hair out just so he could donate it to cancer victims who lost their hair? I do. And that’s the best Dante Positive post in October.

Dante Funny

It’s really a shame but I didn’t post much humor in October by my standards. However, a winner must be chosen. The best Dante Funny had to have been the Bats, Rats, and Cats jokes post. Plus, have you seen the featured image for it?

Other

The best non featured post for October had to be my reflecting on whether I should be a minister or not. Trying to figure out if the call is real. Trying to figure out how to get to where I need to be. It’s really fascinating.

So, those were the best of October. Dante’s Best.

Dante’s Opinion: Should I Complain About Receiving An Inaccurate Greeting?

I have seen some heavy stuff in my day but this is the winner. This takes home the gold.

I went to the store at 9:00 am, and clerk said to me “good afternoon” instead of “good morning” Should I complain to her manager?

I’m trying with all of my heart to believe this is real. I’ve been doing this series and I guess the trolls finally got in. Receiving an inaccurate greeting like this is just…it’s not a big deal.

It happens. Not to me; but it happens. I’ve been greeted with the wrong “time of day” before. 9 am seems a little off to mistake for at least noon, but whatever.

Was the cashier being sarcastic? I love sarcasm but it makes no sense here for use. Maybe is was a terrible joke.

Was there an attitude problem with the delivery of the greeting?

Do you have nothing better to do than to cry about this? I could give you 100 things that bother me more than this. What’s going on, here?

No, you shouldn’t complain to her manager. What is the manager supposed to do anyway? Write her up? Fire her? Go take some sort of special training seminar? I mean, give me a break.

But, like I said, this question isn’t real. I presented this to give you a good laugh. I mean…this can’t be real, right? People can’t exist just for this, right?

Dante’s Opinion: How Do You Deal With Rude Customers?

A little personal for me this time.

How do yall deal with rude customers? I just dont understand how people can get so angry and feel like its okay to yell at cashiers. I got fussed at by two different customers and in both instances the issue was not my fault and their issue had nothing to do with me but themselves. Im not a confrational person so im not really good at defending myself verbally. It was just soo bad, i just wanted to walk away from the register and cry after the second rude customer.

It sucks because “the custmer is always right” and i cant say anything back to them. Then on top of that you have other customers looking at you getting fussed at. Its so embarrassing. After the second guy was rude to me, a customer came up to me and said that im doing a great job and to ignore that *** hole lol. But how do yall deal with situations like those? Does it ever get to you? I guess i just need to work on having thicker skin so that stuff doesnt bother me….ive never had customers be mad at me like that before.

Been there. Working in retail can be painful at times. You know how many times I get yelled at for asking for photo ID to sell tobacco? It’s company policy to require that for EVERYBODY. Struggles with coupons. Misreading of promotional signs.

Some people are just mean in general. You can’t take it personally or you’ll die. I haven’t had a problem in my years and I make sure I support fellow retail workers.

You have to stay strong during the heated moment. You don’t have to defend yourself; in fact, I would advise not to. Talking back in any form will only escalate the problem. Perhaps bring in a manager. I usually am able to handle it on my own because they are all smoke and no flame when they get upset at me and I know it.

And, like that comforting customer, I usually get a boost of confidence from understanding people. People get it. Just keep your cool; stay professional, and pray for the meanies. We don’t know what they are going through.

I personally enjoy working in retail.
