Good News Friday: Firefighters donate crib

Who said firefighters only fight fires? They can do other things too, like giving a crib to a mother in need.

See, firefighters were responding to a distress call about a baby struggling to breathe. Turned out, the call wasn’t very serious. However, the firefighters saw that this baby didn’t have a crib. So, after talking to the mom about it, they…

“I asked her if she had a crib; she said no,” said Costa, “and I asked her if she would like one, and she was very positive and said that she would really enjoy it cause she had no other means to get another crib.”

“So, at that point it was 3 o’clock in the morning. We cleared that call and came back to the station,” said O’Shields, “got a crib, went back to the house, put it together, my partner put it together.”

That’s great. Turns out, this is something that happens.

“And if we find a baby who’s sleeping with their parents, and a mom is unable to find a crib, get a crib, borrow a crib, we’re able, through a partnership with the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies of Broward County and Cribs for Kids, to get them a crib,” said Carroll.

Awesome stuff. The entire story is neat.

Daily Good News 38: Seven Year Old Donates $750, Six Year Old Saves Life

motivational-quotes-4

A 7 year old leads a charge to donate to a family that is supported by a woman’s shelter.

By the end of the year Kathryn had saved more than $54. “We thought that Halton Women’s Place in Burlington would be excellent (to donate to),” wrote John. “In late November we found out about the program that HWP offers whereby you can sponsor a family who needs it the most.”

Healey’s Allstate office team wanted to contribute to what his daughter had started. “Through passion and dedication we were able to cover off all of the requests on the family’s list,” he wrote. In the end, the effort raised a donation of $750 to the family supported by the shelter.

Good job, Kathryn!

Next, a little boy jumps out of a moving car to save his grand father’s life. Not kidding:

Sullivyn Vedaa and his grandfather Ronald were driving to a relatives home for Christmas dinner on Wednesday night when Ronald went into diabetic shock.  Sullivyn, who was sitting in the backseat of Ronalds Chrystler 300 noticed his grandfather acting strangely and very sleepy.  When Sullivyn realized Ronald was not responsive, he decided to jump out of the moving vehicle and run to the nearest house to call for help.

Yeah…there’s your action movie star right there!

Did I mention that kids are awesome? Because, they kind of are.

Daily Good News 26: Donations for Toys for Tots; Predicting the Next Global Epidemic

It’s Friday and you know what that means. At least I hope you do because I have no freaking idea. What I do know is that I have some good news for you. So come on in and take a seat. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

lbb hebrews 13.16 scripture thursday

First we have some odd news that, if things work out, would be in the good news category. Scientists appear to have found a way to predict global epidemics. This can lead to stopping serious diseases from spreading too far and out of control. The link has an awful lot of pictures. SO MANY PICTURES.

And then, a pod full of toys for the Toys for Tots organization was broken into and emptied. So, the local community came together and have sent in donations of toys.

The Danvers Fire Department, which annually collects Toys For Tots with a drop-off spot at the High Street station, went into action. Firefighters and a fire engine showed up at Walmart on Saturday and Sunday collecting donated toys. And they went around the town picking up donations from several locations, including the Police Station on Ash Street, where people had left a growing mountain of donations.

That’s just one instance of donations collected. More in the link, y’all!

See ya!

*realizes he can’t see he viewers*

Uh…farewell!
