Wait A Minute…Can DALANEL Get to 1,000 Followers!?

Hold on.

*grabs a calculator and adds values*

I…I-I don’t think I’m getting this correctly. Help me out. I’m trying to add my social media following as well as WordPress following.

  • Facebook: 373
  • Twitter: 212
  • WordPress: 126
  • Tumblr: 114
  • LinkedIn: 98
  • Google+: 26

Can you tell me what that adds to? I keep getting 950, but, that can’t be right. I just got to 800. Is my following on the verge of 1,000? As I keep saying, these are the numbers WordPress uses as “publicize”. Fellow WP users know what I mean; especially if you look up the term publicize.

*checks numbers again* It’s possible! Holy…

What do I do? Do I go for it?

DARN RIGHT.

DALANEL Hits 800; Has Record Views

So, remember yesterday when I told you DALANEL had record views on Monday? Well, Tuesday was even better. Unlike recent record views, this was more of a milestone for DALANEL. If this type of viewing holds up, DALANEL has just taken a step in the right direction of being a “successful blog”.

And it’s all thanks to you. Thanks for you if you follow me or if you’ve visited in the past couple of days. I’m writing this day down as this could be a big milestone for the blog.

This also proves that people do value a positive experience. The things I present here, I knew it was what I was meant to do. And, in the beginning, things were really slow. I’d go days without a visit. Over time, well, I’ve already mentioned this time and time again, the views picked up.

I remember reading stories about this moment. They would say “views would be poor until, one day, it just suddenly picked up”. I get it now. This was a complete surprise.

15 Followers from Completing Social Media Challenge

I wrote about a month ago how I had a goal to get to 800 followers before 2014. I did the math of how many followers I would need per day, week, and I think month. Welp, it’s going better than expected.

In case you don’t know, my following comes from Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Google+, and WordPress users. Most of the new follows have come from WordPress and Tumblr so big thanks to ya. Twitter, LinkedIn, and G+ helped as well. Facebook actually hasn’t grown much and I rarely get traffic from there even though it’s my largest following.

Still, I am only 15 followers, as I write this, away from the goal. A big thanks to all of you for following me. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here: It’s the content of the blog that you’re following. Not necessarily me. I also noticed a spike of follows as I stopped writing personal stuff. So, I will also keep this in mind. Just as I suspected, it’s not me you want; it’s the Daily Good Stuff and the Weekly features on the weekends. I mean, even looking at the most view posts stats I can see that too.

You can read my original post here.

Again, if you want to be a part of this, just head over to the Join DALANEL page and be a part of a growing leader in the world of positive blogging!

DALANEL Stats: October 2013

WordPress

Another month is over. October saw a significant setback. Indeed, DALANEL took a step back and this is the worst month since June of this year. Still, the blog’s moving along and I feel like November will be better.

Anyway, let’s do what we did last month. First, countries:

  1. United States
  2. Canada
  3. United Kingdom
  4. Germany
  5. Australia

Interesting. Australia was second last month. Other than that, these five are the same five from last month. What about referrers?

  1. Search Engines
  2. Tumblr
  3. Twitter
  4. Facebook
  5. WordPress.com Reader

Interesting list here. Search engines take the big bulk as usual. However, Tumblr continues to dominate the social media area. I’m getting love from WordPress as well. So, while the blog’s viewing is down, it’s popularity seems to be rising in the WordPress ranks. Cool.

Aiming to get DALANEL to 800 followers by 2014

I first want to thank all of you that are following me. You’re following me if you’re connected to me at these places (largest following to smallest):

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Email
  • LinkedIn
  • Tumblr
  • Google Plus

All of my followings combine to 736 as I write this post. Now, you may glance to the left and see a different number.

I can explain.

I don’t know why (maybe you fellow WordPressers can help me out), but WordPress only counts Facebook, Twitter, Email subscribers, comments, and Tumblr as the following of the site. Yet, on the sharing page, where you connect various accounts directly to your blog, I also have LinkedIn, Google+, and Path. My phone doesn’t have a Path.com app available so I can’t actually build a following there yet. Still, I have people on LinkedIn and G+. So yeah, I combine the numbers from all of those sites for this final number.

I previously underestimated the blog with a goal of 700 by the end of the year. However, I think 800 by the end of the year will be a manageable goal.

The hardest part? Getting people to the blog. As I’ve said, viewing here is pretty blah. Still, my streak of getting at least one new follower per week is alive since March 2013. So, while not many come, those people like what they see.

Time to do math.

I need 64 followers to make the goal. Including today, the 12th, I have 81 days to get to 800. So, I would need a little under one new follower per day. To be exact, I need .79 followers per day. Some weeks are pretty good. A standard week brings in a couple of new folks. Instead of per day, let’s look at per week. I would need 5.81 per week to meet the goal. 64 followers in 11 weeks.

So, can ya help a brotha out? If you’re not following, why don’t you go ahead and do it now? At the bottom right of the site (desktop version), you can see quick links to my various profiles to follow me at.

At the beginning of the following streak, I believe I was in the 300 range of followers. So, keeping that pace, I think 800 can happen.

And, again, for those of you that already follow me, thank you so much.

DALANEL Stats: September 2013

As I said in my review of August, I would keep track of each month going forward. September has ended and now is the time to look back at the site’s performance. To start us off, overall views were barely more than August so it was a good month. Not like I had less views. I had less visitors than August though. Yeah. Less people; more traffic. To be clear, visitor would be one person. This one person can click on several things. July is still number one so that’s my goal.

All stats terminology and numbers are from WordPress.

Let me be clear here: DALANEL viewing, compared to successful blogs, is terrible. DALANEL has a long way to go.

September did set a new record for views in a day as well as new followers in a day as well and they were both on the same day. So, while not much has happened in terms of viewing, people are liking this blog. My streak of at least one follower per week lives on since March 2013 so that’s great.

So, let’s break down the viewing. First, by countries (top five):

  1. United States
  2. Australia
  3. Canada
  4. United Kingdom
  5. Germany

So I get around although I would guess that perhaps 80% of the views were from USA. Next, top referrers (top five):

  1. Search engines
  2. Tumblr
  3. Pinterest
  4. Twitter
  5. Facebook

Okay, now a few notes. Tumblr has become the number on social media referrer for DALANEL even after getting my first link in August. Impressive. Facebook, my largest following, is fading fast. Where in the love, man!? Most of my Facebook following is family and friends vs online acquaintances on other sites. Anyway, I’m going to break down the search engine:
