Today in good news history: Gideons International is formed

In 1899, The Gideons International was formed. I’ll let their official site tell you what happened:

Only three men were present at that meeting: John H. Nicholson, Samuel E. Hill, and Will J. Knights. They organized with Hill as president, Knights as vice president, and Nicholson as secretary and treasurer. Much thought was given to what the name of the association should be, and after special prayer that God might lead them to select the proper name, Mr. Knights arose from his knees and said, “We shall be called Gideons.” He read the sixth and seventh chapters of Judges and showed the reason for adopting that name.

Yup, July 1st. And, if you’ve been in a hotel and checked the night stand next to your bed, you most likely saw the Bible. Thank Gideons International for that sexy item.

What will I look at for July 2nd?

DALANEL in July: A look at history

Last year at DALANEL, I took a look at famous birthdays, events, and holidays that happened in July. This year, in matching DALANEL’s theme, I will give a brief look into good news that have happened for that particular day. It’s time for a history lesson, folks.

That’s what’s going on at DALANEL for July.

Anything else? I’ll still be keeping up with the Daily Word, Monday Motivation, and Wednesday Word. I’m going to let the historic good news cover Good News Friday.

Will we hear from the DALANEL staff? I and Dallas T’s birthday fall in this month. We’ll see (I wouldn’t want to spoil any surprises).

Last July set a record in views for the blog at the time. DALANEL’s monthly views have been in decline since January so I’m hoping that July gives me a boost. That would be a nice birthday present.

I’m out.

DALANEL Failed Experiments

At times, when you’re blogging and trying to figure out what’s going on and what works are doesn’t, you’ll stumble upon a few…not so good ideas. This list is four features that, I tried, but never got it up and running for one reason or another.

How Was Your Week?

Back when I made the mistake of trying to make this blog a comment driven blog, I had “How Was Your Week?” where I asked how your week went. The viewing was so bad for the four posts I did, not to mentioned no one responded, made this a failure in my eyes. Plus, I tried to talk about my week and that brings me back my growing belief that people don’t care to read about my life story. Would I ever bring it back? Hahahaha

Dante and Basketball

As soon as I announced that I would do this, I ended up reviving my sports blog. And so, this sports feature moved there. That’s pretty much why I stopped doing it here.

Taking a Break…Looking At August

Well I finally broke down. I’m laying off of DALANEL for a few days. I have other things to attend to anyway.  How long will I be out of action? Today, tomorrow, and Wednesday. The site will still be active as I still will finish the “Today in July History” posts. I will also put up the latest scene of my play as well. But, the Daily Good Stuff and other work will not show up until Thursday.

So, at this point, I’ll give a little preview for August. August is a time of looking back at some of my previous work. Most of the posts I wrote when this blog was known as “Dante’s Opinion” will be re-posted on the blog. There’s a lot of goodies that I think deserve another look. And, with traffic and a much larger following, plus, I launched DALANEL in August of last August, I feel like this is a good time to go retro.

July viewing really died after shattering a daily viewing record on the 21st. And, with viewing so poor, I felt like it wouldn’t make much of a difference if I kept on trying to post in this month.

Daily Good Stuff has been a little bland and I have noticed that most of the views for Daily Good Stuff posts are themed. So look forward to more themed DGS posts in August and beyond.

I’m really hoping August is even better than July. I’m also looking forward to adding a new blogger to the DALANEL team. Well, I’m the only one on the team but still. That way, I can take breaks and other folks can still run the show.

I’m trying to think of some sophisticated line to end the post on.

Whoop, there it is.
