The Daily Positive: 18 Heroes Awarded Medals

18 people are going to be awarded medals for their acts of bravery and courage. I’m going to share just three stories but the link has all of the stories.

Martin V. Hohenstein came upon a woman trapped in her SUV after an accident on the highway in Dakota City, Nebraska. Fermin Urenda, 40, had struck a pole and her car had burst into flames. Hohenstein, 51, was driving by when he saw the scene and tried to help. He saw that the woman’s legs were trapped under the dashboard.
He also couldn’t open the driver’s side door, which was jammed shut. Hohenstein made several attempts to open the vehicle despite intense heat and flame. He was finally able to pull Urdena free after multiple attempts just as the car was destroyed by fire. Urdena suffered burns but is alive.

Then we have this:

Hattie Fowler, 6, was in the bedroom of her family’s Jacksonville, Florida mobile home when fire broke out in that room. The little girl stood near her window and screamed for help, grabbing the attention of Robert A. Pritchard, Jr., 13, who was passing by. Despite the flames and smoke, Pritchard entered the home and grabbed the girl and was able to run out just as the home became engulfed in flames.
Four members of Fowler’s family died in the fire.

The Daily Positive: Woman Has Memory Loss of Wedding; Husband Raising Money for Another Wedding

thK2EGYTMM

Justice just go married. She was happy. Excited. Then, a car accident.

Justice was lucky to survive the crash, but sadly her memory of their wedding day 19 days previous had vanished. In fact, for some time she didn’t even know she was married.

Jeremy, the husband, added this:

“She has memory loss from about five weeks before the wedding,” he said, “which is when we actually started to plan and put the wedding into motion.”

So, Jeremy is now trying to raise money to do it all over again.

Jeremy has so far managed to raise $3,139 out of his $5,000 target and hopes to hold the ceremony on their first anniversary.

The Daily Positive: Sheriff Rescues Woman from Fire

It’s back, hopefully for a long time. The Daily Positive is a quick post with a quote and a piece of good news.

possible

An off duty Sheriff deputy helped save a woman from a house fire.

“Due to the intense flames crews were forced to combat the blaze from the exterior of the home,” Gwinnett Fire Lt. Jerrod D. Barrett said.

Prior to the fire department arriving, the Sheriff deputy assisted with rescuing a female occupant from the back porch using an extension ladder.

It doesn’t have to take a badge or paycheck to be a hero. The Sheriff did what he did most likely because that’s just how he rolls.

Daily Good Stuff 240: Nature

Another themed post for DGS! This time, we’ll be looking at nature. It’s such a nice day today I figured we have class outside today. C’mon kids!

Even with all our technology and the inventions that make modern life so much easier than it once was, it takes just one big natural disaster to wipe all that away and remind us that, here on Earth, we’re still at the mercy of nature. Neil deGrasse Tyson

“Flowers are appearing on the earth. The season for singing has come.
The cooing of doves is heard in our land.” Song of Solomon 2:12

Daily Good Stuff 239

Well what about that? Daily Good Stuff returns. We’re picking up where we last left off here at DALANEL.

This feature helped bring DALANEL to a high following status and really put me on the map. It’s been over a year since I last posted on a consistent basis, but it continues to get the majority of blog views on a daily basis.

So, for this week, we’ll look at DGS, the first daily post type of DALANEL. Most of the featured posts that followed were various forms of this post. When I started my “funny” blog, I took these elements there as well.

Thing was, this blog used to be known for humor as well as what you see now. I essentially split those up so that humor had its own spot while positive had DALANEL.

Alright, I bet you’re tired of the talk. Before we start, let me tell you what DGS posts looked like in its prime. We had a quote, scripture, video, image (usually funny), joke, funny and/or weird news, positive news, and a holiday. I’ll probably post all but the holiday. Are you ready for a blast from my past?

While we are postponing, life speeds by. Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Scripture:

Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. Psalm 105:4

That’s happened to me before!

How about a video? I think a video is good.

The Daily Positive: Girl Overcomes Physical Limitations

thPRXDQO0E

A 12 year old is living her life, despite this:

Kennedy was born with Goldenhar syndrome, a rare craniofacial disease in which facial features and the spine don’t form properly.

She has had 19 surgeries over the years and has dealt with multiple medical issues, including scoliosis and chronic sinus infections.

Now, while some girls (and guys) may find this to be devastating, she says “it’s awesome”. A primary focus was that our girl has a clip on ear.

“I’ve seen that it’s given her confidence,” Kennedy’s mother, Amy Hendershott, said of the ear. “I think it’s given her that little extra boost that she’s needed for middle school. She is confident enough whether she wears it or not. And she’s perfect whether she wears it or not.”

You’ll want to read the entire story. I’ll give you this last piece:

Kennedy’s family has preached all along a message of acceptance. We don’t all look the same. We don’t all sound the same. And that’s perfectly fine.

It sure is.
