No Daily Good Stuff This Week; Other Featured Posts Still Active

173356By now, a DGS would be up and ready to go. However, I am in the middle of shutting the blog down and I am transforming DGS. I will be adding two features to it. I’m working on finding a third one but this third one may end up being a new weekly feature. Anyway, the two I definitely am adding on are a little on the informative side. I won’t tell they are yet.

A post will be up later telling you the time in which this blog will be offline. It’ll be in the middle of the night so it’s shouldn’t be much of a problem. After I come back, the site will look different. Again, nothing drastic will change but, you will see it. You’ve already seen some of it.

So, DGS may be out. But, Dante’s Opinion and today’s Weekly Funnies and Weekly News will still appear. Also, I mentioned at the beginning of the month that everyday I would have a list for you. That’s still gonna happen. So yeah, the only thing is no DGS. Stats show that the most viewed posts of all time…in a top ten, DGS shows up five times (rank 2-6), with Weekly Funnies 6 being the most viewed. I know you like this stuff so it’s not going away permanently.

Like I said, bare with me as DALANEL attempts to grow. It’ll all work out when I return.

So cheer up!

DALANEL Stats: October 2013

WordPress

Another month is over. October saw a significant setback. Indeed, DALANEL took a step back and this is the worst month since June of this year. Still, the blog’s moving along and I feel like November will be better.

Anyway, let’s do what we did last month. First, countries:

  1. United States
  2. Canada
  3. United Kingdom
  4. Germany
  5. Australia

Interesting. Australia was second last month. Other than that, these five are the same five from last month. What about referrers?

  1. Search Engines
  2. Tumblr
  3. Twitter
  4. Facebook
  5. WordPress.com Reader

Interesting list here. Search engines take the big bulk as usual. However, Tumblr continues to dominate the social media area. I’m getting love from WordPress as well. So, while the blog’s viewing is down, it’s popularity seems to be rising in the WordPress ranks. Cool.

Aiming to get DALANEL to 800 followers by 2014

I first want to thank all of you that are following me. You’re following me if you’re connected to me at these places (largest following to smallest):

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Email
  • LinkedIn
  • Tumblr
  • Google Plus

All of my followings combine to 736 as I write this post. Now, you may glance to the left and see a different number.

I can explain.

I don’t know why (maybe you fellow WordPressers can help me out), but WordPress only counts Facebook, Twitter, Email subscribers, comments, and Tumblr as the following of the site. Yet, on the sharing page, where you connect various accounts directly to your blog, I also have LinkedIn, Google+, and Path. My phone doesn’t have a Path.com app available so I can’t actually build a following there yet. Still, I have people on LinkedIn and G+. So yeah, I combine the numbers from all of those sites for this final number.

I previously underestimated the blog with a goal of 700 by the end of the year. However, I think 800 by the end of the year will be a manageable goal.

The hardest part? Getting people to the blog. As I’ve said, viewing here is pretty blah. Still, my streak of getting at least one new follower per week is alive since March 2013. So, while not many come, those people like what they see.

Time to do math.

I need 64 followers to make the goal. Including today, the 12th, I have 81 days to get to 800. So, I would need a little under one new follower per day. To be exact, I need .79 followers per day. Some weeks are pretty good. A standard week brings in a couple of new folks. Instead of per day, let’s look at per week. I would need 5.81 per week to meet the goal. 64 followers in 11 weeks.

So, can ya help a brotha out? If you’re not following, why don’t you go ahead and do it now? At the bottom right of the site (desktop version), you can see quick links to my various profiles to follow me at.

At the beginning of the following streak, I believe I was in the 300 range of followers. So, keeping that pace, I think 800 can happen.

And, again, for those of you that already follow me, thank you so much.

A New DALANEL Goal: Be A Part of A Blogging Network

I have finally called it. I was thinking about this for quite some time but I think this blog and I are ready. I’m putting it out there: I think DALANEL can be a part of a blog network. I would love to join other bloggers to make this happen.

So, let’s talk about how this would happen.

For one, each blog in the network will have a specialty/genre. One blog will be about sports. Another is a blog that follows a lot of the entertainment industry. One will have beauty tips. One will be about financial stuff. You see where I’m going? All of these blogs would be under one umbrella; and don’t worry, it’s not called the “DALANEL Network”. We’re an equal team. I of course would handle the “good news” part of the network and perhaps even spiritual.

Are you interested?

Well, each blog will retain their work and such. It’s a support system really. We’ll all link each other and do collaborative pieces. But we’ll all be under that umbrella and we’ll be a blogging family. On a technical scale, perhaps create a main page for the network and all the feeds from the blogs all show up there. I think this could really be fun. It’ll produce more exposure for our blogs and perhaps even crate friendships.

Requirements? Well, the blog obviously has to be active. Hey, we have lives outside of the blog. I just don’t want to see too many weeks go by with no content. Also, I guess blog performance doesn’t really matter. I can understand if a powerful blog would kinda stay away from a weak blog. And I really don’t want things to be: the better the blog, the more ownership of the network. Everybody has an equal say. If we, as a network decide we want to do something, we put in a vote. Perhaps there should be some universal guidelines for the network.

One cool feature could be each week/month/quarter we run a newsletter type thing or a latest posts from the various blogs. We post that on the main page as I mentioned earlier. So that’s a collaborative thing right there. We’ll talk; I’m just brainstorming.

On a financial basis, as I said before, each blog would be run by their owners. If you have ads on your blog, great. I can’t say DALANEL is going down that road though (WordPress does put ads on sites. This is not me, that’s them). I would imagine, in that case, there would be no revenue sharing or anything like that.

Again, we’re just a team of bloggers uniting to bring quality content to your screen. That’s the goal of this network.

If you like this idea or if you want DALANEL to join your already existing network, let me know and we’ll iron out the details. I am really excited about this idea. I want DALANEL to be a part of a family.

Quick DALANEL updates

I just run a couple of things by ya. For one thing, WordPress has finally added Google+ to publicize so my DALANEL posts will show up there. I’ve been there since close to the beginning of the social media site but I prefer using the convenience of publicize to automatically link my post there instead of having to copy paste multiple times. So, you can truly follow DALANEL now on Google+. My following there is small but hopefully it starts to grow now.

My computer is to the point where it can no longer play videos. Despite having the most recent flash, it still takes 10 minutes to play a 3 minute video. No thanks. Because of this, until my situation improves, there will be no more videos on Daily Good Stuff.

Lastly, I’m going to upload a video soon describing DALANEL. It will be on the “What Is DALANEL” page.

Just some small behind the scenes stuff. Keep it here at DALANEL and follow the blog/me.

DALANEL Stats

I always like to give you a behind the scenes access to DALANEL. Normally, I talk about views and followers. But, and you know this if you run a WordPress blog, there’s more to talk about.

On Tuesday, DALANEL had its best day of views. It was incredible because this is coming off of two bad weeks in a row for the blog and two days after I mentioned the setback. What was interesting about it was that most of my referrers were from Pinterest. If I’m not mistaken, this was the first time I ever got anything from Pinterest. And so I took a look at my referrers from all time and I was right.

The top post from that day was Daily Good Stuff 77. I looked at the post. It wasn’t a special themed post. It was just a standard post. And yet it took over 60% of the views. What made it special? I don’t know.

But then, on Wednesday, I had an even BETTER day. What was interesting about it was that it performed similar to Tuesday. Two great days in a row after two weeks of crap.

Now that we’ve talked about the best day ever, let’s look at the site’s entire history.
