Daily Good News 52: Fashion Saves Lives; Parrot saves the day

6

Fashion Saves Lives. That’s the theme from American Breast Cancer Foundation. Here’s some details of the event:

The American Breast Cancer Foundation is hosting the “Fashion Saves Lives” fashion show at the Port Discovery Children’s museum. Tickets are $25. The money raised will go to the American Breast Cancer Foundation, to help them foot the bill for early detection screenings and tests for women who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford them.

This went down Jan. 14th so it’s all over. Still, the impact of the raised funds is yet to be made.

I hope you have a box of crackers in hand for this hero. Family pet parrot alerted the family of a fire.

Laurajean Niesel said she wasn’t surprised her parrot, Pearly, alerted them. “When I got him I remember they told me to be very careful with frying pans made out of Teflon because if that burns it could kill the bird,” she said. “So they’re very sensitive to smoke or even heat.”

I’ll be honest here: The parrot wasn’t an intentional hero. He was probably a bird freaking out. Still, if there was no parrot, would the family get out in time? And so, we have to give this bird some love.

Okay, have a good one!

ICYMI: Read Team DALANEL’s first posts

Team DALANEL made their debuts this past week. Let’s recap as I share some of my thoughts on each post.

First, Dallas T took over Dante’s Opinion for the week as she answered a question.

The article is here. I’m not going to copy and paste all she said. Basically, there was a friend with a dilemma: Her friend made one of those comments where you get the sense they were just talking for attention. The friend tried to investigate the situation but was met with a brick wall.

Dallas ultimately said to give said person their own space and, if the person is ready to let you in, then he/she will. I can agree with that. Maybe she used that tweet as a means of venting but, didn’t want to actually talk about it. Or, perhaps she talked to someone else about it. Or, like I said, it was just a ploy for attention. If I were in that situation, I would probably say what Dallas said: “You know you can talk to me about anything and i’ll be here for you.” Indeed, that’s sometimes the best we can do.

Dante’s Opinion: If a friend/family member asked for there to be no funeral after their death, would you respect their wishes?

I’m back! Dante has returned with all kinds of thoughts. First question is from Jill B:

If a friend/family member asked for there to be no funeral after their death, would you respect their wishes? Why or why not?

Yes, I would. If that’s what they want, then I’m all for it. I personally care for one myself.

Ok, how about neither funeral or memorial service then? 🙂

Well, it would hurt me if they wouldn’t want a memorial service. But, again, that’s up to them. We gotta respect their wishes. I think, in the sense of a memorial service, you can have a group of close family members get together. Unlike a typical funeral, you wouldn’t make this public. I think that’s fine.

Next is by Anon:

Should you try to hold gas in while going to the bathroom? i was in my dorm bathroom and had to pass gas ,so just let it all out even though my roommate was in the other room, was that gross/rude?

Nah, the bathroom is like the only place you can freely let loose; especially in public places. It’s the bathroom. You’re free to let loose the bodily functions and such. You might feel embarrassed or your roommate might feel that way too but there’s really nothing wrong with it.

Daily Good News 51: Cop pays for man’s fee, Teen saves man trapped under ATV

Good news!

67f6e1b853a7d5d1d6529ba8909df8af

First news is a good one. I mean, they’re all good.

WSBTV reports that the man, who only gave his name as James, had received a ticket for a crash. As his car was a wreck, he had no other way of arriving at court on time — except walking. Setting off from a downtown Atlanta shelter at 1 a.m., he spent eight hours huffing and puffing through the cold. “No way to get up there, so I walked,” he told Channel 2 news, adding, “As soon as the air hit my lungs it took my breath away because of the wind. That was the major thing, the wind.”

So, an officer decided to give a helping hand:

Monday Motivation: Speak Life Into Your Situation

In case you missed it, Monday Motivation is a new series I’m running. I share my own words to you in the hopes of motivating you. As you can probably tell, this will show up on Mondays.

This post is based off of one of my favorite posts I wrote: The Power of the Tongue. I suggest you read it so you can better understand where I’m going here, although you’ll still get the gist of my message.

We need to speak life into our situation. Think positive thoughts this week. Our very words are powerful. When we face a situation, keep you head held high. Don’t give up.

From a Christian standpoint, some of us always start their morning with prayer. They speak life into their day before it starts. And many have said there’s a difference. A positive difference.

“I can do it.”

“The day isn’t over yet; I can end it on a high note.”

I’m not saying looking at a lottery ticket and saying “I’m gonna win” 500 times will make you a billionaire. I’m saying that that, as I mentioned in my linked post above, our words can do damage. At first, we may not believe our own words. But, keep speaking them. Over time, things well get better. And soon, you’ll hate even the smallest negative remarks you see, hear, or even think.

Even on the long days, find something. Find something to be thankful because it’s there. “Well at least…” is perfectly acceptable. Keep looking for the new morning because God’s blessings are new each morning.

Daily Good News 50: Broken wrist saves boy’s life, Milwaukee County paying for home repairs

Made it to the 50th post. This calls for some kind of celebration, right? Sure it doesn’t!

quote-go-after-your-dream-no-matter-how-unattainable-others-think-it-is

Alright, I remember a story I posted of a man who got in a car accident and how it saved his life because the doctors stumbled upon a tumor. this time, a boy’s life was saved after he broke his wrist:

It was after a concerned doctor checked James’ heartbeat and sent him to a consultant that his parents Hayley and Steve were told that the 11-year-old had a heart condition called subaortic stenosis – a tightness below the valve that lets blood out of the heart.

Doctors said that had it not been detected by his accident at judo, James could have died – and exercise had been making the condition worse because it was making his heart work harder.

This quote makes the article, especially the last sentence:
