Daily Good News 55: Wells Fargo gives to charity, Teen saves boy from drowning

BiblePromise-Scripture-Verses-for-your-Daily-Bread_1

Wells Fargo doing some charity work in at least the local area:

In 2012 Wells Fargo donated over 300 million dollars to charities. Now two years later they are still at it. Friday afternoon a check was handed over to the executive director of Habitat For Humanity Of Magic Valley, in the amount of 15,000 dollars.

Next, a teen boy scout saved a boy from drowning in ice water:

Footprints seen in the snow covering the ice show the exact route the 9-year-old took near the bank of the pond. His footprints, however, come to an abrupt end in the spot where he fell through.

‘I ran down there, and I stood on the grass and I reached out and I grabbed his hand and I pulled him out,’ Zac says.

When asked if he was worried that he, too, might get pulled into the icy water by helping the younger boy, Zac says ‘yes and no because if I went in, I know how to get out because Boy Scouts taught me.’

The former boy scout in me fist pumps!

Daily Good News 54: Woman saves kids from car fire, Breakthrough in blindness research

Quote-change-your-thoughts2

First, a woman witnesses a car become engulfed in flames. She also realized that there were kids inside:

A passer-by rescued the children from the vehicle after it burst into flames while their mother was collecting a prescription from a nearby pharmacy. The pair, along with an older child and their mother, were taken to hospital.

A central ambulance communications spokesman said three children were taken to Palmerston North Hospital with smoke inhalation and burns; a 13-month-old and 3-year-old with minor injuries, and a third child, believed to be 7, with moderate injuries.

So young! At least someone was able to help out.

Next, there was a breakthrough in research for choroideremia, a rare and incurable form of blindness:

Daily Good News 53: Helping prostitutes, Donation of $15k opens health clinic, and Woman saves man in wheelchair from fire

I’m gonna borrow this photo that Nia used in her post.

new wordpress

Alright, first order of business. There are agencies trying to get our young ladies off the streets. Here’s a little something:

Mary Carol Melton runs the “Off The Streets” program for Cincinnati Union Bethel. She knows a lot of the girls at the service. Melton says it’s a hard process, but the program works and saves lives. Chantall Nunnally says she tried several programs. Tried to stop selling herself, tried to stop using drugs. Nothing worked until she met Melton. Thanks to them she is three years sober, has a full time job and is moving up to a management position.

Yeah, not everybody can be helped, but, it can be worth it even if one person is saved.

Next, a man donates $15k to help open a new clinic:

Mark Twain: Do the right thing. It will gratify some people and astonish the rest.

I wanted to talk about this quote a little more. I mentioned it in my Daily Good News 11. I wanted to expand my thoughts.

It’s always important to do the right thing. And yet, it seems like a struggle. Why?

One could say, the “Good Samaritan rule”. For what I hear, at least for this country of the USA, the law means that you can help someone; mainly in a life threatening situation, and not be held accountable for any damage. For instance, if someone is choking, you go over to perform the Heimlich maneuver. But, let’s say you break a rib while saving the person’s life. Now, he goes around and sues you for the medical bill. The nerve! And so, you don’t go around trying to help because then it could come back to haunt you. That law protects the would be heroes. So, in countries that don’t follow that, maybe that’s why doing the right thing could be bad.

Some people would only do the right thing if there’s a reward for it. “Can you help me?” “Help? What’s in it for me?” Something like that. That’s a shame.

And, you have some that may not be capable or at least don’t think they could help. I kinda give those folks a free pass especially since you trying to help could make things worse if you’re stumbling around like a drunk or something.

Some people simply don’t care. Some have their own agendas and doing the right thing will only set them back.

Others don’t do the right thing if it means they look silly. Perhaps people at the job take some items/merchandise. And they tell you it’s all good. And you’re like, “Nah, it’s not right” and then they call you goody two shoes or something. Sort of peer pressure type thing. It takes some balls to stand up to that.

I’m sure there are other scenarios too. But yeah, people don’t do the right thing.

That’s what makes this quote so believable. So unfortunate. Consider the “astonish the rest” part. Because we live in a world that doesn’t always do the right thing, when someone does it, it’s like “Holy mother of my sister!” (What!?) and people make you a hero or something. I hate it.

Wednesday Word: We Can’t Quit

This video I’m about to show you becomes that more powerful when you read the description for it on YouTube. I’ll share it here:

A POWERFUL excerpt from a message by Pastor Dalton who was taken home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 5, 2014. He was 58 years of age. He laid out the vision for the church during both services that day and then the Lord took the baton out of his hand and gave it to the church only a couple of hours afterward. Pray for Lakecrest Baptist Church and enjoy this short excerpt.

This is some of what he said that day:

Page Updates: Code of Conduct, What Is DALANEL?

images blog update

I made a slight update to my Code of Conduct page. It’s under the What Is DALANEL page. You need to be familiar with it if you intend on commenting on posts here at DALANEL. I’m not even kidding because if you get yourself banned, the challenge of “I didn’t know” will NOT fly by me. I’m a laid back type of guy but I will not tolerate foolishness. Here’s a bullet list found of the page of what I just won’t do:

  • Name calling
  • Disrespecting others’ beliefs and comments
  • Commenting only to promote your site/business
  • Keep the language clean. No cussing (I am open about this and using this language will not automatically result in trouble; keep it to a minimum though; I want this site to be kid friendly)

That’s right. Follow this and you live.

Next, What Is DALANEL? That page got a major new look. Gone is the video and my life story. As I said, my personal life will be limited. The page now contains what this blog is about (duh) on a much more simpler scale. It also aims to be better related or complementary to the sub pages under it too.
