Another Year for DALANEL

3yearsold

Today we celebrate DALANEL’s anniversary. On February 14th, 2011, I launched this blog. It was Dante’s Opinion. I kept that name until August 2012. In April 2011, I had five views. I barely had any followers. In November 2013, I had well over 2,000 views. It’s not much, but it’s something. I have a solid following and after years of struggles to find an identity for this blog, I finally have it.

My only regret is that I didn’t start this style of blogging when I first started. I’m imagining what three years of the previous couple of months growth would mean for this blog. But, that’s okay; I’m on my way.

I made it this far. I want to thank God for the inspiration. This blog’s goals are something I pride myself in bringing out, even if it’s not the popular one. Heck, since I was sort of a social outcast, this actually makes sense. I’m used to not being in the light of everyone’s approval so doing this blog was easy.

I want to thank my parents for giving me a new laptop because, like I said during the summer, the way my old one was acting up, there was no chance I’d be blogging today had they not stepped in and helped me out. There was a point where the enemy just about had me. I seriously considered quitting because the darn laptop wouldn’t stay on for more than 15 minutes at a time before blue screen or browser crash or something. But, I was not to be defeated. I stubbornness helped me too.

I want to thank you, my readers and followers for the support. It’s been really fun watching the blog grow. Part of me didn’t really think I’d even hit 100 followers. I really hope that this blog has been worthwhile for you. I hope you got something good, maybe even great, from the content here. It’s my goal to provide some sort of beacon of hope in a dark world. I’m happy that you’ve stuck around with me.

I want to thank my team. Yeah, they’re a very new part of what’s going on but they are going to make this year that much better. I appreciate the contributions they made already and what they are going to make in the future. When I die, they may or may not continue blogging here; but they have the green light. Yeah, in case you don’t know, I have a post scheduled to appear on my birthday. Only way it doesn’t is if I’m dead. But, the blog could still live on.

I’m excited. This blog could go another three years, hopefully. Ah, three years. That’s one year per nipple!

Weekly Funnies 31

A principal of a small middle school had a problem with a few of the older girls starting to use lipstick. When applying it in the bathroom they would then press their lips to the mirror and leave lip prints.

Before it got out of hand he thought of a way to stop it. He gathered all the girls together that wore lipstick and told them he wanted to meet with them in the ladies room at 2pm. They gathered at 2pm and found the principal and the school custodian waiting for them.

The principal explained that it was becoming a problem for the custodian to clean the mirror every night. He said he felt the ladies did not fully understand just how much of a problem it was and he wanted them to witness just how hard it was to clean.

The custodian then demonstrated. He took a long brush on a handle out of a box. He then dipped the brush in the nearest toilet, moved to the mirror and proceeded to remove the lipstick.

That was the last day the girls pressed their lips on the mirror.

time machine(GOD! this is damn epic! 5 days coma, and thought he travel through time! LOLOLOLOL)

How the worst moment of my life made me a better person: part 2

As the title reads, this is part two of three of how a widely negative experience led me to create DALANEL and made me a better person. We’ll pick up right we left off. Read the first part to catch up; although, oddly enough, the message will still get across if you decided to start here. You just won’t have all of the details.

Alright, so, the Nelson’s have been left to be homeless. We needed a new home, and fast. I didn’t go with my family to look at houses. I just couldn’t. Not yet. My younger sister didn’t go either. My baby sister did though. Maybe because she was the youngest; she didn’t have as much connection to the house. But, she is also one that tends to take change easier than I or my other sister.

Anyway, my family found a house. And, based on how they found it, I gotta give credit to God for saving our booties. See, my dad is an amazing artist. And, he would paint my room and my sisters’ room (back when they shared one) with various animated characters. One instance, in my sisters’ room, he took over one wall and painted all of the major Looney Tunes characters. Included was Tweety Bird. This is key because in the house my parents and sister settled for had a door-sized Tweety Bird painted on the door of a bedroom. Not impressed? This house just so happened to be the exact same layout as the current one and the painting was in the SAME ROOM AS THE CURRENT HOUSE. HA! That was it. This would be our new home.

Luckily for us, we were still in the same town so our social lives didn’t change. So, is that it? Of course not.

DALANEL Review: Facebook

DALANEL Review is back! Of course, it’s got a place for the blog celebration week.

Today’s review is of Facebook. Ah, yes. Facebook. Some people love it. Others hate it. Quite frankly, I don’t know why you would hate it. It’s only a tool. You hate the people on there. But, whatever.

As you know, I don’t have a personal profile. I converted that into a business page. I can speak on both fronts. I like the idea of Facebook. I like being able to keep up with your friends or companies/celebrities/brands/etc. It’s so easy. If you like something on Facebook, you “like” it. Genius.

Being able to customize my feed to see what I want? Perfect. I’ll admit, shortly before I let go of my profile, I selected to hide the updates of many of my friends. I know. I started using FB for keeping up with pages. Looking at your personal profile, it was a way for people to get to know you. Your interests. Your relationship status. Your bio. Quite frankly, it served as an intro to the person. Of course, FB’s initial idea is that you’re only “friends” with people you actually know. Of course, people don’t do that, and then they try to label FB with a negative zone for strangers scamming you when FB clearly only suggests “people you may know”. K.

FB seems most useful as an address book in most cases for me. However, I did have fun with the games. I thought Farmville was gay so I wasn’t one of those guys that always harassed you with invites. Other than that, the chatting and messaging stuff wasn’t why I was on in the first place.

There are some privacy issues. However, one thing for me is that once it’s on the internet, it’s there forever. I’ve known this for quite some time but, it didn’t hit me until I so called deleted my profile. Facebook let me know time and time again that I would be deleting all of my info if I shifted to being a page. Only thing that would carry over would be that my friends would now like my page. That’s all I remember. So, I went through with it. And, for the first few days, I still was able to actually access my profile. I could click and look around and everything. I was even able to update it. I figured the system needed time to clear my stuff out. Here we are, a year later, and I can STILL get to my old stuff. So, this is a warning for you: If you put some naughty pictures on FB, and then delete them to try to clean up your image, there’s a good chance that it’s not really deleted. Again, it’s sort of common internet knowledge, but something to be aware of.

Would I recommend it to others? Yeah, I would. A lot of people are on FB and I think it’s cool to not only keep up with people you know, but catching up with people from your past, if you care for it. If you’re not much of a people person like me, there’s still plenty of other uses for it whether it’s games or keeping up with brands, companies, TV shows, big names of people, and more.

What about you? You on Facebook? What’s your favorite thing to do on there? Hate Facebook or don’t care for it? Why? Like me on Facebook and/or add Dallas T. on Facebook. Links are on the left side on desktop version

Good News 59: Teen with down syndrome is hero on the court, woman donates $15k, and football fans unite

Hey, it’s time for another round of good news.

First we have a kid with Down syndrome become a hero on the court.

Grow, who has Down syndrome, had been a manager for the Bensalem boys basketball team for four years. But it’s what he did on senior night on the court that’s garnering all of the attention. Kevin got to play, and when he did, he made magic happen.

What kind of magic, you ask?

Kevin hit four 3-pointers in the last two minutes of the game to help beat Neshaminy 64-40.

Awesome!

Next, a woman donates $15,000 to three waitresses:

Over the weekend, three waitresses at a restaurant in Caledonia, Ill., each received a $5,000 tip from an anonymous woman — and two of the waitresses weren’t even serving her table.

If you follow the link, it’ll tell ya what they plan to do with the money.

Lastly, we have a fan of football. A 49ers fan was in the championship parade for the Seattle Seahawks. But there’s more to this story:

Tate reached out to the Seattle TV station following the parade, wanting to compliment the fellow Niner lover courageous enough to sport the enemy colors nehind enemy lines. She says she first merely hoped to give the teen “front-row seats in the new stadium on the 50-yard line.”

After connecting with the 15-year-old fan via social media and finding out he was living in shelters as a ward of the state, she started a gofundme account to gather donations for a trip to San Francisco.

Expecting just 49er fans to help, Tate says she has been touched by the flood of offers of help for the youngster via shelter, counseling and other assistance — especially from Seahawks fans.

It’s great to see sports fans come together beyond the game.
